Needham’s Art in Bloom 2020: Presented by the Beth Shalom Garden Club and the Needham High School Fine Arts Department

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Needham, MA — Beth Shalom Garden Club and the Needham High School Fine Arts Department proudly announce that our award winning Needham’s Art in Bloom 2020 will be held during the weekend of March 6th, 7th, and 8th at multiple locations in town. We are thrilled that Kate Bergeron and Maria Sartori will continue to be our Needham High School Faculty Coordinators this year. Beth Shalom Garden Club co-chair Sue Kaplan expressed that Needham’s Art in Bloom, “Really appeals to everyone – art lovers, flower lovers, seniors, students, couples, families with young children…everyone!”  This free multi-generational exhibit, organized by Beth Shalom Garden Club, will feature mixed media high school student artwork with floral interpretations designed by its members and participants from Kalmia and Needham garden clubs. This year’s event has been generously sponsored by Roche Bros. and Shark Ninja.

Needham’s Art in Bloom was modeled after the annual springtime exhibit Art in Bloom presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston. Beth Shalom Garden Club’s goal was to organize a community event that would engage people of all ages, interests, and life experiences. Needham’s Art in Bloom has earned three prestigious awards. Most recently, in June 2018, Garden Club Federation of MA presented Beth Shalom Garden Club with a civic PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARD. The GCFM also awarded Beth Shalom Garden Club with the SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, in June 2010, for it’s successful creation and execution of Needham’s Art in Bloom. In December 2016, Needham’s Art in Bloom was recognized and honored nationally by The Goldin Foundation for Excellence in Education with an EXEMPLARY PROJECT AWARD.

The exhibit, now in its twelfth year has become a well-received annual event. Allison Shapiro, Co-Chair of this event commented, “Needham is so fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group of teachers. They inspire so many students, which results in the high quality and diversity of artwork that makes Needham’s Art in Bloom so popular.” Last year, over 3,700 people filled the Needham Public Library during the weekend long-exhibit to see the 70+ displays.

Needham resident, Jean H. was truly captivated after viewing the art and flowers. She described the sentiments of many visitors in the guest book: “What a wonderful demonstration of the talent in Needham. The student’s work is impressive and thought provoking. The floral demonstrations are beautifully creative and inspiring. This is a lovely example of informal education combined with community spirit. Thank you!”

Spectators can get a small preview of a few pieces of Needham’s Art in Bloom exhibit that will be on display in Town Hall on Friday, March 6th from 12 – 4pm, as well as The Center at the Heights, and the Needham High School lobby. The entire exhibit will be on display at the Needham Public library as follows: Saturday, March 7th from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on Sunday, March 8th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
