Newton-Wellesley Hospital Marathon Day Directions: April 18th

Since the Marathon route goes past the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, the hospital has posted separate entrance directions for April 18th.

Directions to Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Monday, April 18, 2016

• From Route 128 take Route 9 East.
• Immediately after merging onto Route 9 East, take the first road bearing off to the right.
• Take the second left under Route 9 onto Chestnut Street.
• Follow Chestnut Street to Beacon Street.
• Turn right on to Dorset Road.
• Follow Dorset Road for approximately 1/2 mile to the dirt entrance
  road to the Hospital.

The annual running of the Boston Marathon will take place on Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2016. The race passes directly in front of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Subsequently, Washington Street and the Route 16 access ramps to Route 128 will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from approximately 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

During these hours of limited access, patients and visitors must enter and exit the Hospital via the Dorset Road entrance. Dorset Road is located off Beacon Street, approximately 1/2 mile from Washington Street. View Map

Only patients and visitors with Hospital business on Monday, April 18 will be allowed access to the Hospital.

The Woodland MBTA parking lot will also be closed from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Commonwealth Avenue will be closed from Washington Street to the Boston line from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. No vehicles will be allowed to cross Washington Street or Commonwealth Avenue during the hours of limited access.

The Hospital has been advised by the Newton Police to discourage visitors from visiting the Hospital during the hours of limited access (8:00 am to 6:00 pm) on April 18, 2016 due to traffic congestion concerns. Additionally, they have directed that spectators not be allowed to access or park on the campus. Recorded information and directions are available by calling 617-243-5315.

To ensure the safety of our patients, staff and race spectators, there will be additional Public Safety Officers and armed Police personnel on the Hospital campus throughout the day.

Police or security personnel along the route may ask to inspect bags and other items. Marathon organizers and law enforcement officials are encouraging spectators to carry any personal items in transparent bags to enhance public safety and speed security screening. Spectators are discouraged from carrying, among other things, backpacks, coolers, large blankets/comforters and glass containers.
